What is the Virgin Islands University Sports Federation (VIUSF)?
Officially founded in November 1992 in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, VIUSF is considered an umbrella federation of all sports played by Virgin Islands’ student-athletes.
VIUSF is a nonprofit organization registered with the Lt. Governor’s Office in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. The Federation is administered by officers who are appointed by a Board of Directors. Three members of the Board represent governmental and/or V.I. sports organizations (Asst. Commissioner of Housing Parks and Recreation, Athletic Director or the Assistant Director of UVI and Director, V.I. Interscholastic Athletic Program.
What are the aims of VIUSF?
A) To promote the development of Virgin Islands’ student-athletes, including high school and college students.
B) To promote the development of university sports in the Virgin Islands, the Caribbean and the wider world.
C) To promote good sportsmanship and cooperation between student-athletes, sports officials and others.
D) To promote the mental, physical and educational well being of students.
E) To work closely with the: Virgin Islands Government, Virgin Islands Olympic Committee, Virgin Islands’ sports federations, International University Sports Federation and the Central America and Caribbean University Sports Organization to provide opportunities for Virgin Islands’ student-athletes to train, develop, and represent the Virgin Islands in international university sports events.
2011 World University Games
A delegation of 21 student athletes and officials attended the 2011 World University Games. They competed in Chess, Fencing, Golf, Track & Field, and Taekwondo.
University Sports Federation Update
The Federation has joined with the VI Future Stars organization to provide academic tutorial assistance to high school students who are also working on developing baseball skills.
