Basketball Federation

The Virgin Islands Basketball Federation Under-17 Women National Team will begin competition in the 2013 Centro Basket U-17 Women Championship on Wednesday, August 28th. The Championship will be held in San Salvador, El Salvador and ends on Sunday, September 1st. The Centro Basket Championship includes the top eight of thirty-four (34) National Federations in Central America and the Caribbean, and qualifies three National Teams for the 2014 FIBA Americas U-18 Women Championship.

The Coaching Staff of the Virgin Islands U-17 Women National Team is led by Head Coach, Tajama Ngongba of George Mason University, and Assistant Coaches, Myron Corbett of Charlotte Amalie High School and Donald Bough of St. Croix Central High School. All action from El Salvador will be streamed live on the FIBA Americas website, www.fibaamericas.com.

During the Junior Women and Men Centro Basket Championships the Jr. Men won bronze and qualified for the 2012 FIBA Americas Championship. 

At the Caribbean Basketball Confederation Championship, the Senior Men won gold while the Senior Women won bronze.  Both Sr. teams qualified for the 2012 Centro Basket Championships.  

The Federation hosted the Caribbean Basketball Confederation Referee Pre-certification Clinic and sent 4 participants to the FIBA Technical Commissioners Certification Clinic in March 2011.

A Level II Coaches Clinic was also held April 2011.
